Jeffrey Hovenier was the director for Central and Eastern Europe on the United States National Security Council. Hovenier has a BA from Brigham Young University and an MA from Georgetown University. He has worked as a state department official in Paraguay, Panama, Croatia, Montenegro, Austria and Serbia. Starting in 1998 he was deputy political counselor at the U.S. mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. In 2000 he was involved with the reestablishment of the United States embassy in Serbia. He later headed an embassy office connected with the Presevo Valley and issues surrounding the ethnic Albanian population there. In 2007 Hovenier was a winner of the Sinclaire language award for his study of Greek.〔(Report on Sinclare language award winners )〕 He currently lives in Lima Peru where he works at the US Embassy as the head director of the NAS section. He was promoted to Senior Foreign officer on September 28 2012 Hovenier and his wife Laura are the parents of four children, From oldest to youngest, Helen Sabin, Peter Hovenier, Megan Atkin, and Julia Hovenier.
